Ice 2 — Fine Art

Ice 2 shows a pale field with soft grey layers that shift across the sheet. The paint sits in thin bands and the edges blur into one another. Gerhard Richter builds this kind of picture with slow hand moves and scraped paint.

The white frame gives the print a clear edge on the wall. That plain border keeps the grey tones from spreading past the image. You see the fine art print and the frame as one flat surface.

In a bedroom, the pale grey sits against a painted wall near the bed. From the doorway you notice the soft shift in tone, and the white frame stays close to the picture edge.
