In the Woods — Fine Art

In the Woods by Paul Cézanne puts a path through trees in front of you. The trunks stand upright and the leaves gather in small patches of green and brown. The ground tilts forward and the brushwork stays firm and separate. You see the forest as a set of planes rather than a blur.

The fine art print comes ready to hang. The paper has a matte finish, so the greens hold their weight and the dark marks do not turn shiny under a lamp.

On a hallway wall with a narrow side light, the trunks read as separate posts and the path leads your eye inward. From the stairs you notice the tilted ground first, then the tree trunks, then the pale sky at the top.
