Kalmunz — Fine Art

Kalmunz by Gabriele Munter sets a quiet street scene in a few strong tones. She painted many such views of her home area in the early twentieth century. The shapes sit plainly, one beside the other, with little detail left behind.

The print keeps those tones clear and even from one side to the other. A light frame works on a dark wall, a dark frame on a pale wall. The paper stays matte, so the greyer areas do not shine under a lamp. You can see the fine art line in the picture when you stand back.

It hangs well on the wall next to a reading chair. From the door you notice the flat colour areas first, then the thin drawing lines near the bottom. The wall stays calm behind the bookcase.
