Knives — Fine Art

Knives by Andy Warhol shows a row of kitchen blades against a plain background. The blades are black with silver strips along the edges. The surface is flat and the marks repeat with small shifts from one blade to the next.

This belongs to the pop art period, where everyday objects were turned into repeated images on paper. The fine art frame comes in white, wood, dark wood or black, and the clean frame edge keeps the blade shapes from running off the page.

Above a kitchen counter at eye level the row reads as a simple pattern. Step closer and the small differences between each blade appear. From the doorway the long line of knives gives the wall a steady horizontal mark.
