About this work
Coloured paint sits in broken dabs on the field. The work is called Late Night Reflections 1972.
Alma Woodsey Thomas built these shapes with mosaic like strokes of paint. Each block of colour rests beside the next one, and the pattern grows across the sheet. You see the separate pieces of paint more when you stand close to the frame.
The fine art print is set in a frame with a back panel. Light does not bounce off the matte surface, so the small painted dabs stay soft. It works on a hallway wall where the paint colours catch the evening glow.
