Le Marabout 1912 shows a single figure with a pointed hat standing in a plain space. Wide colour areas and bold outlines give the figure a clear shape.

The fine art print comes ready to hang. Henri Matisse worked with flat fields of paint and simple forms in his fauvist period. The frame has a clear edge that separates the image from the wall. On a white frame, the bright notes stay clear and the dark outline stays firm.

On a black frame, the space around the figure feels tighter. Put it above a desk at eye level with light from one side. From the desk you see the dark edge of the hat and the plain ground behind it.
