Lemons and Saxifrages 1943 — Fine Art

Lemons and Saxifrages 1943 shows fruit and small flowering plants set together. Henri Matisse worked with broad colour areas and plain outlines in his later still lifes. The picture uses simple forms and a limited range of tones.

This fine art print sits inside a frame with a clear edge on the wall. The white finish keeps the lemon yellow and the plant greens separate from the surrounding surface.

It hangs above a plain shelf in a kitchen. From across the room the fruit and flowers read as solid colour shapes. Up close the edges stay soft and the paper stays matte.
