Lepanto, Part VI — Fine Art

The picture shows a broad pale ground with marks that gather near the lower half of the sheet. Lepanto, Part VI by Cy Twombly uses a loose pencil line and a thin grey wash that stroke across the paper and leave much of the surface open.

The fine art print sits on matte paper so the pencil grey and the pale ground stay soft under a lamp. A light frame works on a dark wall, a dark frame on a pale wall, or a wood frame beside wooden furniture. You choose the finish that matches the room.

On a hallway wall with an overhead light the marks show first, then the open space above them. From the stair landing you notice the pencil strokes before you notice the background.
