About this work
A thin arch of painted metal sits on a flat sheet in Little Arch Maquette 1940. The form reads as a simple curve held in place, the way Calder worked flat shapes before building the hanging sculptures. The surface shows no extra detail, only the bent outline and its paint.
This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte finish holds the paint tones without shine, so the painted curve stays soft under a lamp.
It fits above the desk in a study, where you notice the curve first from the chair, then the small painted edge closer up. The arch sits quiet against the plain sheet, and the frame stops the eye at the edge of the paper.
