Mauve District

Mauve District - 1966 opens with wide bands of mauve wash laid by Helen Frankenthaler. The eye stops where the colour thins to a pale edge, leaving the rest of the sheet open.

The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. Poured paint sits in broad planes with soft borders between them. The metal hanger on the back fixes straight onto a nail, so the print goes onto the wall without a frame.

A kitchen wall above the sink keeps the mauve tones quiet under the bright bulb. You notice the wide painted band first, then the empty sheet beside it.
