About this work
Merz Picture 25A the Star Picture 1920 shows a star shape built from small paper scraps and paint marks. The eye finds the star first, then rests on the empty ground around it. Kurt Schwitters worked in collage and assemblage, using found paper and paint on a flat surface. The image is simple and a little rough.
This fine art print sits in a frame with a back panel. The frame holds the paper flat against the wall. The matte surface keeps the grey and white tones soft, so the small paper marks do not glare under a light.
On a narrow landing wall, the star catches the eye at the turn. You see the big shape from the door, and the small cut edges when you stand close.
