About this work
One Ton Prop House of Cards 1969 shows four tall steel blocks leaning against each other in a small stack. The painted steel plates meet at the edges and hold each other up. Richard Serra built sculptures from rolled steel and simple balance. The image keeps the weight of the metal visible.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. A light frame sits on a dark wall, and a dark frame sits on a pale wall. The matte surface keeps the steel colour steady without shine. You see the painted edges and the plain faces clearly.
On a hallway wall beside a coat hook, you notice the leaning forms first, then the small gaps between the plates. The light from the stairs falls across the stack at an angle.
