About this work
Orange and Yellow - 1956 shows two broad painted bands stacked on the sheet. The upper field holds a warm orange tone, and the lower band runs into a yellow tone. The paint edges blur where the tones meet. Mark Rothko built these forms with layered colour on paper.
This fine art print sits in a frame with a back panel. The paper stays matte, so the orange and yellow tones do not catch a harsh shine. You can see the soft boundary between the bands without glare. The frame gives the sheet a clean edge.
On a bedroom wall, the orange band reads warm from the door. The yellow field stays calm in the evening light. From the reading chair you notice the blurred line between the two tones.
