About this work
Palm Trees shows upright fronds reaching into open space, with repeats of the same shape stacked in a steady row. Tarsila do Amaral often worked in this Brazilian modernist way, building a scene from repeated shapes and simple colour blocks.
The fine art print sits on a pale wall in a room with low natural light, where the matte surface keeps the greens from glaring. A dark frame on that pale wall pulls the row of shapes forward and gives the picture a firm edge.
In a dining room, the fronds line up along the wall beside the table, and from the doorway you read the repeated shapes before you notice the small colour shifts between them.
