Paysage de Bretagne 1896 — Fine Art

Paysage de Bretagne 1896 by Henri Matisse shows a coastal view with land, sea and sky set in broad areas. The scene uses open colour blocks that sit on each other with clear edges.

This fine art print uses a white frame that gives the picture a clean edge on the wall. The white finish keeps the surrounding space simple so the colour areas stay readable from across the room. The frame edge sits plainly against the image and does not pull attention away from the marks.

Hang it at eye level above a bookshelf in a quiet study. From the doorway you see the broad colour blocks first. Closer up you notice the separate shapes and the plain painted ground.
