About this work
Persian Garden - 1966 shows broad painted planes that spread over the sheet in Helen Frankenthaler practice. Thin washes of colour settle into the surface and leave edges that are not sharp. The marks seem to sit in a quiet balance rather than pushing forward.
The sheet is a fine art print that arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger fitted to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame to buy. The matte surface keeps the colour planes even when light falls from a side lamp.
In a reading corner above a desk, the painted planes hold steady across the field of view and the soaked edges do not call for attention from close up. From the doorway the shapes read as a calm block on the wall.
