About this work
Plain Salt Cardboard 1971 by Robert Rauschenberg shows a flat board with a rough salt texture and scattered paint marks. The surface holds patches where salt crystals sit on the ground. A few brush strokes cross the area without filling it.
This fine art print comes with a frame in white, wood, dark wood or black. The frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall. A black frame keeps the pale salt look separate from the room. A white frame lets the salt texture stay near the edge.
In a kitchen with pale tiles, the print hangs on the side wall near the table. From the doorway the salt patches read as small white spots. Standing close you notice the uneven brush lines and the rough ground.
