Pomona — Fine Art

Pomona - 1991 by Albert Irvin uses loose washes and quick marks across the sheet. The work feels open and airy, as if the paint was laid down in passing. You can see the artist working in a direct way, with colour placed where it sits on the surface.

The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The paper is matte, so the lighter passages stay quiet and there is no shine under a lamp. A metal hanger is fitted to the back, so it goes straight onto a nail or screw.

It works on the end wall of a narrow hallway, where the light comes from a skylight above. From the stairs you see the broad shapes, close up you notice the smaller marks and the way the colour shifts across the sheet.
