The port is built from broad colour areas and simple painted shapes. Boats, buildings and water sit on a light ground. The picture follows the fauvist colour practice and the open composition Henri Matisse used in the south. Port de Marseille 1917 keeps the shapes loose and the surface flat.

This fine art print is set in a frame with a back panel and arrives assembled when the ready to hang option is used. The matte surface lets the light ground stay soft and the painted shapes read without shine under a lamp.
