About this work
Project of Poster the Center of Textile Workers in Belgium 1938 2 sits within the surrealist painting practice of Rene Magritte. The design turns a trade notice into a painted scene with hard edges and a plain field. You read the layout as a block of lettering set against solid colour.
The fine art frame comes in white, wood, dark wood or black and gives this image a clear edge on the wall. A black frame keeps the painted text tight against the edge. A white frame lets the flat colour hold the room without drawing attention to itself.
On a kitchen wall near the stove, the broad lettering stays readable from the counter. You see the plain field and the blocky marks before you notice the smaller details in the scene.
