About this work
Publicon Station I 1978 by Robert Rauschenberg uses a transfer print method with painted strokes laid over a printed ground. The marks press in from printed matter and build a mixed surface where each layer stays visible.
This fine art print arrives ready to hang with a metal hanger fitted to the back, so it goes straight onto a nail or screw without a separate frame. The matte paper keeps the printed greys quiet and the painted marks stay flat under a lamp.
On a bedroom wall above the bed, the printed shapes read first and the small transfers show when you stand near the headboard. By the window at the foot of the bed, the lighter printed area stays even while the painted line keeps its edge.
