About this work
Relief Construction in White, Black and Maroon - 1963 by Victor Pasmore shows planes of flat colour set at different angles. The white surfaces catch the eye first, then the black shapes settle into the middle, while the maroon blocks sit lower and smaller. Space stays open between the forms, and the eye moves across them without a fixed path.
The piece comes as a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte finish holds the white tones without glare and lets the black areas stay solid under indoor light.
It fits on a wall in a study above a wooden desk. From the chair you see the broad white planes first, and the maroon shapes step in behind them.
