Relief with Cross and Square 1924 — Fine Art

Relief with Cross and Square 1924 is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The picture shows flat geometric marks placed in a simple arrangement.

A cross and a square sit near each other on the paper, and the forms read as cut shapes rather than drawn lines. Kurt Schwitters used collage and assemblage in his practice, so the work carries that way of building with pieces.

The fine art print keeps the edges clean and the surface matte. From a kitchen bench near the stove you notice the square first, then the cross, while you wait for a cup to cool.
