Sanctum Sanctorum — Fine Art

Sanctum Sanctorum by Hans Hofmann sets a protected space against a field of paint. Thick strokes of warm red and deep blue press against each other, and a pale strip sits across the centre like a narrow door. The picture feels closed in, with the marks pushing toward the middle.

This fine art print is mounted in a frame with a clear border, in white, wood, dark wood or black. The frame edge gives the painted surface a steady line on the wall, and the matte paper holds the red and blue without shine under a lamp.

In a study, the print goes on the wall beside a desk. You see the broad colour blocks from the chair, and the small brush marks when you pass by. The pale centre line catches the light from the desk lamp each evening.
