About this work
Series Painting 7 - 1966 keeps its focus on the painted mark itself. Broad horizontal strokes sit one over another on a plain ground. The brush passes leave a visible edge where paint thins at the side. Ronnie Landfield built this surface with steady pressure across the sheet.
The frame comes in white, wood, dark wood or black, and that edge sits clean against the painted bands. A fine art print of this kind holds the colour without a glossy shine. You see the mark first, then the frame finishes the edge.
In a study corner the painted bands read clearly against a far wall. Overhead light picks up the texture of each stroke. From the desk the eye travels along the horizontal passes before it rests on the frame line.
