About this work
Shoe Rows - 1975 by Wayne Thiebaud lays out pairs of shoes in tidy rows across the board. The shapes sit in a grid and the paint builds in soft blocks of colour. A mid twentieth century american practice turns everyday objects into a measured still life.
The fine art finish uses a matte surface, so the rows stay even and the paint blocks hold their soft tone under indoor light. The frame can follow the room you choose.
On a hallway wall it reads as a row of shapes from the front door. You notice the repeated pairs and the steady paint build as you walk past.
