About this work
Sixth Stone III 1964 shows a dark opening set into a softer ground, with rough lines pushing around the center. Lee Bontecou often worked with cut shapes and assembled forms, and this image carries that method into a flat sheet. The marks feel built up rather than drawn in one pass.
The fine art print comes ready to hang. The frame comes in a white, wood, dark wood or black finish, and each one gives the picture a clear edge on the wall. A black frame sits firmly against the darker center shape, so the lighter ground stays open around it.
In a narrow hallway with one low bulb, you notice the rough outline before the soft center, and the frame edge keeps the whole shape from fading into the plaster.
