About this work
Sky Tree 1977 grows from a stack of painted wooden forms, built the way Louise Nevelson often built her walls of boxes. The shapes sit in layers that read as one dark mass. You see the repeat of similar blocks and the quiet rhythm they make together.
The frame finish sets the edge of this fine art print. A white or black frame keeps the stacked forms from drifting off the paper. The clear border holds the heavy shape in place on the wall.
It works on a narrow stairwell wall where the steps run up to a landing. From the bottom step you catch the rise of the stacked forms, and from the landing you see the flat tone of the painted wood.
