About this work
Skywriting - 1997 opens with a light band of blue across a pale ground. The blue sits close to a thin grey line that runs to the lower edge. A soft green wash rests near the top right.
The colours stay separate but feel near each other. Helen Frankenthaler often poured thin paint onto raw paper and let it soak in. This fine art print set in a frame with a back panel keeps those pale tones flat and even.
The matte face does not catch a lamp. You can lean in and read the broad painted shapes without glare. Hang the picture on the staircase wall near the handrail. From the landing you see the blue band first, then the grey line follows your eye down the steps.
