About this work
Spiele des Menschen - 1965 shows a field of thin painted strokes and small signs placed over a pale ground. The shapes read as people in motion, pushed together without a single centre. From across the room the marks blend into one soft band.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. Step closer and each stroke and dot becomes clear. Ernst Wilhelm Nay built the picture with quick paint handling and a trimmed palette.
The matte paper keeps the greys soft and stops a hard shine under a lamp. It works well above a long dining table. From the kitchen door you see the broad shapes first, then the little marks as you pass by. The table below stays clear.
