About this work
Star Gazing, 1989- by Helen Frankenthaler places a few open colour shapes on a pale field. The eye enters at the top and moves down to a heavy tone near the lower edge. Empty space stays wide around the marks. This fine art print uses a matte surface so the thin tones stay soft and do not shine under a lamp. A light frame sits on a dark wall, or a dark frame on a pale wall, depending on the wall you choose.
This fine art print is made for a wall that gets little direct sun. The matte surface keeps the pale tones from reflecting and the frame finish can follow the room.
It works on the hall wall beside the coat rack, where the light is even and low. You notice the empty space before the colour shapes.
