About this work
Summerscene, Provincetown - 1961 by Helen Frankenthaler shows thin ribbons of colour laid across a white sheet. The paint soaks into the paper and stops where it meets the edge.
Helen Frankenthaler worked with poured colour and stain methods in post war abstract painting. In this fine art print the white frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall.
The frame finish sits tight against these thin colour bands so the image stays open. A dining room wall works well with this picture. From the table you see the pale bands, and near the doorway the thin paint lines hold the space.
