Superficie Bianca

White squares repeat across the sheet with even spacing. A faint shadow sits at the edge of each square. The title Superficie Bianca - 1985 points to that plain surface.

Up close the white tones shift a little. Across the room the marks settle into a steady pattern. Enrico Castellani worked with painted relief to build this kind of surface.

The matte fine art paper keeps the whites from shining under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall lets each square stand out. Above a door in a hallway the pattern stays quiet. You notice the small changes in white as you walk past.
