About this work
Takka Takka 1962 by Roy Lichtenstein shows a saxophone in flat colour blocks with heavy black outlines. The instrument fills the sheet with bright yellow and red shapes against a plain blue ground. A sign beside the instrument uses bold type. The pop art painting keeps the picture clean and direct.
This fine art print uses a matte paper so the bright colour blocks stay even under indoor light. The frame finish can follow the room. A light frame on a dark wall makes the yellow stand out. A dark frame on a pale wall keeps the black outlines sharp.
It works on a hallway wall near the stairs. From the landing you see the bright instrument first, then the bold outline shapes lower down. The sign catches the eye before the saxophone.
