Tempo — Fine Art

Tempo by Sam Gilliam shows dark colour bands that run across the sheet at different angles. Some bands cross each other and leave open spaces between them.

The paint sits on top of the paper with clear edges where one tone meets the next. The field reads at a distance as a set of crossing lines, and closer up the individual strokes show their direction and weight.

A fine art frame can match the room, with a light finish on a dark wall or a wood finish beside wooden furniture. The print hangs on a wall where the light comes from one side, so the bands keep their contrast without glare. It works above a desk in a study where you look up from the page and notice the crossing lines first, then the quieter gaps between them.
