About this work
Thanksgiving Day - 1973 by Helen Frankenthaler works with poured paint on paper. A wide field of colour spreads across the sheet, with the pigment soaking into the fibres and leaving uneven edges. The artist used this soak stain method often, letting the wash settle on its own.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. The print uses a matte paper that keeps the wash looking flat and soft. A frame finish can follow the room, so a light frame sits on a dark wall or a wood frame rests beside wooden furniture. The paper does not shine under a lamp.
It hangs on the stairwell wall beside the newel post. From the landing you see the big painted field. Step closer and the soaked edges show where the colour stopped on the paper.
