About this work
The Edge of the Maple Wood - 1910 shows a tree line where the trunks thin out at the forest boundary, painted in earth tones with quick strokes that catch light on the bark. A.Y. Jackson worked in the Canadian landscape tradition, often painting outdoors and building colour from the ground up.
The fine art print keeps the brushwork visible on a matte sheet, so the small shifts between the dark trunks and the open ground stay readable without glare. The frame finish can follow the room.
On a hallway end wall near a door, the pale band of sky sits above the tree line and the dark trunks anchor the lower part of the picture.
