About this work
The Red Sea - 1982 shows a wide field of red wash on a white sheet. The red runs down one side and thins out toward the middle. Helen Frankenthaler lets the paint soak into the surface and leave a soft border.
The print arrives as a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The frame holds the sheet flat and the panel keeps the back clean. When the ready to hang option is used it comes assembled.
A hallway wall picture works well above a narrow landing. From the bottom of the stairs you catch the red band first and the thin lines last. Under a low ceiling light the stain stays open and the white sheet stays bright. You notice the loaded brush when you stand close to the frame.
