About this work
A cafe terrace sits beside the canal at the Restaurant de la Sirene at Asnieres. Buildings with warm reds stand against a grey sky.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. Short green strokes fill the trees along the water. Vincent van Gogh painted this in several layers of oil on canvas, using quick paint marks common to the post impressionist period.
The white frame keeps the bright reds separate from the wall and gives the picture a clean edge. It looks right on a dark corner shelf in a study, where the green strokes read clearly from a desk chair.
