About this work
The Spring Door 1938 by Kurt Schwitters uses the collage and assemblage practice he is known for. Coloured paper fragments meet torn edges and glue on a mixed ground. Assemblage ideas sit beside everyday scraps pulled into a single surface.
The fine art print comes ready to hang. The frame finish can follow the room. A light frame on a dark wall keeps the paper fragments readable, a dark frame on a pale wall lets the torn edges stand out, and a wood frame beside wooden furniture ties the whole thing together. Light from a side lamp gives the paper fragments a soft look.
In a kitchen, the work sits on a narrow wall above the counter. From the doorway you see the paper fragments and glue marks, while the wood frame lines up with the table edge.
