The Square in Hyeres — Fine Art

The Square in Hyeres by Raoul Dufy sits on a pale ground with broad brush passes. The paint moves in quick sweeps, leaving uneven edges where the bristles turned. Squares and paths sit under a bright sky, drawn in a loose hand.

A fine art print set in a frame with a back panel keeps the broad strokes readable. The paper stays matte, so the green and blue washes do not shine under a lamp. You see the quick marks without any glare.

On a bedroom wall, the eye moves across the painted ground first, then to the small changes in the brush passes. The picture reads as a sunlit square seen from a doorway.
