About this work
The Teapot - 1984 shows a single rounded pot standing on a plain painted ground. Mary Fedden painted the vertical form in flat colour with a few small painted lines across the body. From across the room the shape reads as one simple block. Up close you see the paint layers.
The fine art print uses a matte sheet, so the flat colour stays even and there is no shine under a ceiling light.
It hangs on the kitchen wall over the cooking range, where you see the pot shape while working at the counter. At the doorway you notice the whole form, close by you see the small painted marks on the surface.
