About this work
A long shadow stretches across a quiet square in The Terrible Games 1925. Empty arcades and a lone figure stand apart on the ground. Giorgio de Chirico worked in the metaphysical painting movement, where still shapes meet long shadows and empty spaces inside an Italian scene.
The fine art print sits on a pale wall in a hall. A dark frame on that wall keeps the shadow shapes sharp, while the matte paper holds the soft greys without shine under a lamp. You see the small marks when you step nearer.
It works on a landing wall between two doors. From the top stair you notice the empty arcade shapes and the long shadow, with the grey ground pulling back under your feet.
