About this work
A winding path changes direction through the countryside in The Turn in the Road at Auvers. Trees and low land stretch into the distance. Paul Cézanne built the scene from separate patches of paint and short strokes. The post impressionist method keeps each section distinct.
The fine art paper takes the paint tones without glare. A light frame on a dark wall lets the pale sections stand out. A dark frame on a pale wall gives the darker patches more weight. A wood frame beside wooden furniture links the picture to the room.
In a study, the road turns at the centre of the picture. From the desk you see the separate colour patches. The short brush marks show up when you stand near the wall.
