About this work
The Voice of Blood 1959 turns a quiet field into a painted space with a few solid forms placed apart. The title reads like a question on the sheet. Rene Magritte builds the scene with flat colour areas and steady edges, in the surrealist painting practice.
A fine art print keeps the flat colour areas soft and the edges clear on the wall. A black frame gives the picture a firm edge, so the painted field holds its shape against the matte surface.
It fits above a dining room table where a lamp throws a warm glow across the sheet. From the end of the table you see the plain field first, then the separate shapes as you move closer.
