About this work
The Y 1960 shows a single black form that bends and turns on a plain sheet. The shape reads like a wire line that has been painted flat. Alexander Calder made work in this style, using painted metal and simple curves to hold space.
This fine art print comes with a frame in white, wood, dark wood or black. The frame gives the picture a firm edge on the wall. For this image, a black frame keeps the black form reading strong, while a white frame lets the plain ground stay open.
It fits a narrow hall wall where the top of the frame meets your eye. From the far end of the hall you notice the single black turn before anything else. Up close the painted edge shows as a solid band, not a drawing.
