Toward a Red — Fine Art

Toward a Red shows a broad wash of red laid over a pale ground. The red spreads in loose bands that shift in tone as they move across the sheet.

Sam Gilliam builds these surfaces with stained colour that stays open at the edges. A fine art frame in white gives the picture a clean line on the wall.

The white finish keeps the red from feeling heavy and lets the lighter parts of the wash stay visible. You can hang it on a dining room wall above the table, where the red tones come forward at meal time and the pale ground stays quiet behind the glass.
