Toward Dark, 1988

A faint band of watery color moves across the sheet in Toward Dark, 1988-. The edges stay open, and the paper shows through the thin paint.

You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. Helen Frankenthaler worked in the colour field painting movement, laying washes so the pigment soaks into the sheet rather than sitting on top. The black frame gives the picture a clean edge.

Against a dark ground, the frame keeps the marks from fading into the matte paper. The white frame sits beside a light corner and leaves the dark band easy to read.
