About this work
A single word painted in black letters runs down the middle of a pale ground in Trademark Study 3 1962. The letters hold a steady weight and leave most of the surface open. Edward Ruscha often worked this way, turning text into a painted shape.
The print is a fine art print set in a frame, with a back panel. The matte paper keeps the pale ground soft and the black letters stay clear without shine. A back panel gives the piece a firm edge when you place it.
On a thin shelf in a bedroom, the word reads first from the doorway. Step closer and the even letters show the plain painted style. The frame keeps the edge neat against the wood.
