About this work
Transverse Line 1923 by Wassily Kandinsky sets a single dark line across a soft ground. The line runs from one side toward the other with a steady hand. A few small marks sit near the edge and a thin stroke breaks the line in one place.
This fine art print keeps the line sharp against the background. The white finish frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall. The paper stays matte so the line does not catch a bright light from the lamp.
In a study corner the line runs across the top of the sheet and the small marks sit below it. From the desk you see the whole line at once. From the chair you notice the break in the stroke and the quiet tone beside it.
